Recently, when my Qatar Airways flight from Addis Ababa to Doha was delayed, causing me to miss my connection, I discovered how the airline’s exceptional customer service turned what could have been a frustrating situation into an unexpectedly delightful 24-hour stay. Here’s my experience with their complimentary transit service.

Late night arrival in Doha — Despite missing my connection due to a delayed late-night arrival in Doha, the experience turned out to be unexpectedly wonderful.

Upon arriving in Doha and informing Qatar Airways staff about my missed connection, I was immediately impressed by their helpful response. They introduced me to their Complimentary Transit Accommodation Service, a benefit I hadn’t expected.

Having resigned myself to spending time in the airport, this offer came as a pleasant surprise. The accommodation provided was the luxurious 4-star Crowne Plaza Doha, complete with complimentary meals. It seemed almost too good to be true.

Exploring Doha

West Bay to Souq Waqif — As temperatures cooled, I ventured out from the modern West Bay area to Souq Waqif via metro

After arriving on my late-night flight, I enjoyed breakfast and took a refreshing nap. Waking up in the late afternoon, I realized I’d missed the complimentary lunch, but the cooler evening temperatures made it perfect for exploring the city.

I visited Souq Waqif, Doha’s traditional market, where I explored various spice shops and local crafts, sampling luqaimat, a traditional sweet dumpling. The atmosphere was enchanting, offering a genuine taste of local culture.

On my return walk along West Bay, I enjoyed the spectacular nighttime views of the city. Doha after dark presents a completely different charm, with its illuminated skyline creating a romantic atmosphere.

I returned to the hotel for dinner, arriving just before the buffet closed. Despite being the only guest, the staff remained welcoming and encouraged me to take my time. After a light workout in the gym, I retired for the night, ready for my 4 AM shuttle back to the airport the next morning.
