The Hotel’s Greatest Appeal is “Direct Airport Connection”

The hotel entrance proudly stands at approximately the midpoint of the connecting corridor between terminals. Access is via elevator from this point.

This hotel is actually located right between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Pudong International Airport, and you can access it on foot from the airport. It’s directly connected by elevator to the corridor linking both terminals, so there’s absolutely no need for taxis or shuttle buses. The travel time is only about 5-10 minutes from each terminal, allowing you to stay with plenty of time to spare even during transit.

By the way, there are North and South Buildings, but they face each other just a stone’s throw apart. Personally, I would recommend the North Building if given a choice.

My Experience: Overnight Stay & Short-Term Use

I had the opportunity to enter Shanghai twice, so I tried both patterns: a regular overnight stay and a short-term stay (day use) with hourly rates. If you arrive in Shanghai on a late-night flight, I recommend staying overnight as you would at a regular hotel. On the other hand, the “Hourly Lounge” format is perfect when you arrive early in the morning and have time to spare before your next flight. Although the time is fixed at 6 hours, it’s just the right length for a nap. Even with a short stay, it’s nice to be able to refresh properly.

I checked in around 2 AM. I was a bit worried about arriving late, but the staff efficiently handled the check-in process, allowing me to enter my room smoothly.

By the way, the hotel has a 24-hour convenience store as well as dining options. Additional services like massages are also offered as optional extras.

I Was Worried About Negative Reviews Online, But Actually…

I was very satisfied with the spacious guest room. This quality for around $70 is hardly imaginable at airport hotels in Japan.

Actually, before my first stay, I saw harsh reviews online saying “poor environment,” “difficult to find,” “no privacy,” etc., which made me quite anxious. But when I actually stayed there, those worries were completely unnecessary! The room was clean, amenities were plentiful, and the view of the airport building from the window was spectacular, especially the night view. At around $70 per night (about $50 for short-term use), I have no complaints about this quality. The location might be a bit difficult to understand until you get used to it, but if you follow the airport signs, you can reach it without getting lost. It seems the issue is less about the hotel’s location and more about the difficulty of grasping the geography of the airport itself at first glance.

Enjoying the airport night view is another attraction of this hotel. Since you’re traveling, it would be boring to just sleep! It’s a good hotel that stimulates your traveler’s spirit.

If I had to point out one thing that bothered me, it would be that for some reason the first room I stayed in had a faint scent of Scotch whisky lingering. Some people might find it bothersome? It was just at that level, but it was a bit of a mysterious experience.

The bathroom was also very clean. It was equipped with plenty of amenities including shampoo, conditioner, and complimentary water.

Super Convenient Baggage Storage Service

Furthermore, the service allowing you to store your luggage for free even after checkout was very convenient. If you want to enjoy a few hours of sightseeing in Shanghai, being able to leave your large luggage at this hotel instead of using the airport’s baggage storage is a big advantage. This is quite a welcome service for those who want to do a bit of sightseeing during transit.

Summary: The Best Choice for Transit Rest

The “Shanghai Dazhong Airport Hotel” is an ideal airport hotel for transit stays. With its outstanding location directly connected to the airport and surprisingly comfortable rooms, you can properly rejuvenate your tired body. Especially since you can get quality rest even with short-term use, I would highly recommend it to those who have long layovers on flights via Shanghai. While advance reservation is not absolutely necessary, it might be better to book in advance through a booking site if possible to ensure a smooth check-in. If you have transit plans in Shanghai in the future, please consider using this hotel!
